Uniforms
Introduction: Wearing a school uniform promotes a sense of belonging, equality, and school pride. It helps create a positive learning environment by reducing distractions and peer pressure related to clothing. School uniforms also encourage good behaviour and responsibility, as pupils represent their school both inside and outside the classroom.
Dress Code: It is the policy of Goggins Hill NS that all pupils wear the correct school uniform daily. The Board of Management is committed to maintaining high standards of dress and personal appearance. Parents are asked to ensure that pupils adhere to these standards in relation to general appearance, clothing, hairstyles and jewellery throughout the school term.
Children must wear the school uniform at local and national events and when they are representing Goggins Hill NS. On these occasions they are asked to wear the school uniform with pride as they represent the standards, values and ethos of the school while wearing it.
Labelling: Please ensure that all jumpers, coats etc. are clearly marked with the child’s name. Please check throughout the year that these are still visible.
What our school uniform looks like:
- Navy pinafore/navy skirt/grey pants
- Navy jumper or cardigan
- Sky-blue shirt
- Navy socks or tights
- Black runners or black shoes. (No laces allowed until 1st class)
- Navy skins are permissible during winter months as an extra layer
What our school tracksuit and sportswear look like:
- School navy tracksuit bottoms and crested tracksuit top
- Sky blue polo T- shirt – crest not essential
- School crested navy shorts for summer term
- Individual runners or black school runners
- 6th class may wear their class hoodies on tracksuit days instead of navy crested tracksuit top.
Children are encouraged to wear their full school uniform to school every day except when there is a special theme day or a no-uniform day. Teachers will notify parents in advance of the days when tracksuits are to be worn.
Seasonal adjustments may need to be made to the type of clothing worn in the winter/summer months but this will be communicated to parents directly if the need arises. Shorts may be worn in May, June and September.
Suppliers: The entire uniform is available from “Laura’s”, Dosco Industrial Estate, Douglas Road and in the usual outlets – Dunnes Stores, Marks & Spencers etc. Parents are encouraged to buy black runners/shoes with Velcro fastenings (instead of laces) for children in Junior and Senior Infants. Tracksuits and shorts can be ordered through the school supplier. You will be notified when your child is required to wear his/her tracksuit.
Footwear: For safety reasons please do not have any of the following: shoes with high heels, sling backs, crocs, flip-flops and strappy sandals, as they are not suitable nor safe to wear during school hours which include break times, playground times, PE classes, Daily Mile etc..
Jewellery: Stud type earrings are suitable if your child’s ears are pierced. Necklaces should only be worn inside a polo T- shirt/shirt. Facial piercings of any kind are not permitted in school for health and safety reasons.
Hair: In the interest of hygiene and safety, hair must be kept out of eyes and back off the face. Long hair should be tied back at all times and this is especially important when participating in games and practical classroom activities. As head lice are a serious health hazard in all schools, the Board of Management asks parents to monitor this at all times and to adhere to the policy of keeping hair tied back.
Make up: Children should not wear make-up to school at any time unless there is an arranged dress up day eg. Hallowe’en. Fake nails are not allowed for health and safety reasons.
Sensory Needs: Parents of children with diagnosed sensory needs are welcome to consult the child’s class teacher to discuss provisions to be made in relation to clothing, if the need arises.
