Speech and Drama

Mrs. McSweeney is our speech and drama teacher. We do speech and drama during school hours and work on mime, role play and improvisation. Some pupils also attend Mrs. McSweeney’s after school lessons.

This term we had dancing lessons with Derek. He came once a week to teach dancing to all children in the school. We learned how to waltz and jive, how to do the birdie dance and Macarena and loads more.

We also have after school dancing. Ciara and Debbie come in on Friday and teach us hip-hop dancing.

Jason Downey and Joe McGrath have been coaching us in Gaelic Games. This term we have mainly been working of our football skills. Jason comes to the school once a week to help us improve our skills and team work.

Donal Lombard has recently started training us after school on Friday evenings. He trains 4th, 5th and 6th classes in preparation for our Sciath na Scol hurling and camogie competitions next term.

New Arrivals

19 new Junior Infants started school in September and have settled in very well. Welcome also to Ber Looney, who is our SNA in Infants .

This term we had a very special date.

The 11th of November was the 11th day of the 11th month of the 11th year of this century. It is a phenomenon that happens only once in each century.

Here are the 11 3rd class girls having their picture taken at 11 minutes to 11 on 11/11/11.

This is what 6th class were doing at 11.11am on 11/11/11.

Parents Association

We would like to thank the Parents Association for their help and co-operation during the year.

They held some very successful fundraising events including an evening in Supernova and the Christmas Bazaar.

6th class tour to Courthouse & UCC

Behind Bars
On the 8th December 6th class went on a school tour to the Courthouse and UCC. We

got to see inside the cells and courtrooms in the courthouse. We also got to sit in on an actual court session.  It was an appeals session and most of the cases related to motor/driving offences. We saw how the court was laid out and where the judge, registrar, barristers, solicitors and stenographer all sat. We saw gardaí and witnesses being sworn in and giving evidence.

After that we went to UCC. We saw lots of historic parts of the campus, including the statue of St. Finbarr that replaced the statue of Queen Victoria, the Honan Chapel, and the Quad. We also got to visit the Crawford Observatory and look at the telescopes there. Before we left we left we had a Junior Conferring ceremony. We all got to wear robes and were presented with a certificate. Overall it was a great day and we all enjoyed ourselves.

Operation Christmas Child

We would like to thank you all for the great response which we had to our Annual Christmas Child Appeal again this year. These will help to brighten Christmas for children in Africa and Eastern Europe, and will certainly bring a smile to their faces.

Carols in Bishopscourt Nursing Home

Some members of the Senior Classes visited Bishopscourt Nursing Home to perform carols for the residents there. We sang songs like Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Some of us even played instruments to accompany the songs. This visit has become an annual tradition that is much enjoyed by both the pupil’s and residents.

Student Council

This year’s Student Council members are Aoibhin O Connor, Dáire Cullinane, Katie O Connor, Gabriel Donohoe, Jamie Lyne, Orlaith McCarthy, Rachel Mellerick, Brian Lynch, Áine Finnan and Conor Coughlan. We have implemented the Buddy System again this year and we did paired reading with some of the younger classes. We also organised the Halloween Theme Day, including fancy dress, house of horror and storyteller. For advent we are doing the Jesse Tree symbols in assembly each morning.

School Extension

A permanent 100m2 extension is being currently being added to the school. This will facilitate the ASD class, housed at present in the prefab. The project is due for completion in late March. In the interim, the staff are using a temporary car park opposite the school, kindly loaned to us by Gus O' Mahony. The build is progressing well and disruption to the school is minimal.

Shrek’s Christmas Party

Junior Infants, Senior Infants and first class had a great day at Shrek’s Christmas Party play in the Rory Gallagher Theatre in C.I.T.

Their favourite character was Fiona and they really enjoyed the party in the swamp.

Christmas Carol Concert

This year we held a Christmas Carol concert in Goggins Hill Church. We told the story of the First Christmas and accompanied the story with some Christmas Carols. It was a great success and a lovely way to mark the Christmas season.

Christmas Art

We have also been making lots of festive art in the run up to Christmas and the whole school is beautifully decorated.
