Sciath Na Scol Hurling and Camogie.

posted 23 May 2011, 06:09 by Jan Kiernan   [ updated 23 May 2011, 06:27 ]

Because of our success last year, this year we competed in Roinn H/C 1, which meant we had to field 15 a side teams.
The other teams in our group were Upper Glanmire, Scoil Nioclás, Scoil Eoin (Inishannon), Ballinspittle, Kilcredan and Carrignavar.
We started our campaign with a mini-blitz in Brinny, where we played Ballinspittle and Scoil Eoin. Our girls won both games and our boys beat Scoil Eoin and narrowly lost out to Ballinspittle.
We had home advantage against Carrignavar and our girls came away with a victory but our boys were beaten.
Our next 2 games were played off in a nother mini-blitz day. Our boys were victorious against upper Glanmire but lost against Scoil Nioclás. Our girls won both matches on that day.
The final game of the qualifying round was against Kilcredan. ours boys were beaten and our girls were lucky to come away with a win.

The results of these matches mean that our girls are through to the final in Páirc Uí Rinn, June 1st at 1pm. All support would be appreciated.

Over the last fortnight we have played 6 of our Sciath na Scol matches.

Our girls team

Our boys team

Our first game was away to Rathduff where our girls recorded a narrow victory on a scoreline of 1-2 to 1-4. Unfortunately our boys were defeated 7-4 to 5-2.

Our next 3 games were played in a one day blitz event kindly hosted by Canovee N.S.

Our boys did well on the day, beating Firmount 1-2 to 2-7 and overcoming Canovee 6-2 to 1-4. However, they were beaten 6-12 to 2-2 by a much stronger Kilmurray team.

Our girls came up against the same teams with similar results. They had a shaky start in the first match of the day and Kilmurray took advantage with a final scoreline of 6-4 to 1-1.  The girls settled into the  next two matches, beating Firmount 1-4 to 6-4 and defeating Canovee 7-1 to 0-3.

Enniskeane generously hosted the next mini-blitz, where we competed with both Enniskeane and Ballingeary.

Bothof our teams were unbeaten on the day. Our girls finished 4-7 to 2-2 against the home team Enniskeane, while our boys also beat them, on a scorline of 4-4 to 1-3.  Against Ballingeary our boys won 4-7 to 8-4 and our girls had a 3 goal margin over them,  with that game ending 6-5 to 3-5.

The results of the qualifying rounds sent our girls to the final, but our boys were relying on the results of some other fixtures, which unfortunately did not go our way.

In the final our girls came up against a very strong Kilmurray team. After a hard fought match, the full time whistle saw both sides even, and extra time could not differentiate between the  teams, who both gave their all on the day. In the end the title, along with the cup and trophy, were shared between the schools.
